The impact of ESAs on accessing Christian education
What is an ESA?
The Students First Act, passed by the Iowa legislature in January 2023, allows families to use state taxpayer education funds towards qualified school expenses - including tuition and fees - at our school.
These funds are placed in an Educational Savings Account (ESA), and parents direct where they want the dollars to go. Most parents will direct the dollars toward their child’s tuition account.
The impact of this legislation is significant for families who choose to send their children to Waverly Christian School.
Who is eligible for an ESA?
By the 2025-26 school year, all K-12 students in Iowa, regardless of income, will receive this funding to use towards their child(ren)’s education expenses.
When are ESA applications due?
ESA applications will be due on June 30 for the 2025-26 school year. If you qualify for an ESA but miss the application deadline, you will not be able to apply until the following school year.

We Remain Committed to Our Mission. While the Students First Act makes Christian school accessible to more families, our school’s enrollment requirements remain in place. All families and students must meet all enrollment requirements at Waverly Christian School in order to be admitted. We welcome all families who meet the enrollment requirements to join us at WCS!
